DSI NEW CONTINENTAL COUNCILS

The VII General Assembly has also elected the five Continental Coordinators. They will  cooperate closely with the International Coordinator Sr Marie Therese Clement OP during the next period.
 
Nilsen Else-Brit OP (Europe), Rose Marie Riley OP (North America) who was re-elected, Faustina Jimoh OP ( Africa), Marie Therese Clement OP (International Coordinator), Viviana Sisack OP (Latin America and Caribbean) and Tran Thi Sam Marie Constance OP (Pacific Asia).
 
DOMINICAN SISTERS INTERNATIONAL ELECTED NEW INTERNATIONAL COORDINATOR

On Tuesday, 14 May 2013, the prioresses of DSI elected Sr. Marie Therese Clement OP as the new International Coordinator, 2013-2019.   She will succeed Sr. Maria Fabiola Velasquez Maya OP, who has served DSI 2007-2013.  Sr. Marie Therese is a member of the Dominican Missionaries of Our Lady of Delivrande.  While the motherhouse of her congregation is in France, Sr. Marie Therese is a native of San Lucia (Caribbean) where she has been living and working while serving as a General Councilor for her congregation.

 Sr. Marie Therese made her perpetual profession of vows in 1992.  She brings a wealth of personal gifts and professional competencies to the role of International Coordinator.  The DSI Assembly is grateful to Sr. Marie Therese and to her congregation for this generous gift of service to the Apostolic Dominican Sisters of the world and to the entire Dominican Family.

 
Fr Bruno Cadoré celebrates with DSI

Fr Bruno Cadoré visited the Dominican Sisters International (DSI), the international body of Congregations of Dominican Sisters at their 7th General Assembly holding at Ciampino, a city some kilometres outside of Rome. Fr Bruno was in company of some brothers from Santa Sabina.
 
During the visit, fr Bruno shared with the sisters on the topic, “The New Evangelization and the Dominican Mission today in response to the recent Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization and the Transmission of the Faith”.

During the opening session, Sr Fabiola Velasquez Maya, the outgoing International Coordinator of DSI welcomed all the participants. Together they shared a great moment of communion and prayer.
 
Sr Fabiola also thanked, in a special way, all the members of the Coordinating Council. She introduced Sr Vivian Sisack, the new Coordinator for Latin America and Caribbean and Sr Celestina Veloso, the new International Promoter for Justice and Peace for DSI. She informed the Assembly that the Master of the Order, fr Bruno Cadoré and some friars from Santa Sabina will be visiting on Sunday. The Assembly is expected to have several presentations on various theological themes, presentations of reports and a presentation on social communication.
 
To set the ball rolling, Sr Fabiola gave her report of activities as the International Coordinator for the past 3 years. In her report, she gave an insight into her activities and visitations to the sisters in over 20 countries, the meetings, courses, workshops etc. For her, this has been the best university she could never have attended anywhere else. She also made a brief introduction of the Assembly theme, “The New Evangelization and Our Dominican Mission Today”.

Next General Assembly of Dominican Sisters International 2013

 

DSI is preparing for its next General Assembly. It will be held May 9-16 at “Il Carmelo” Institute in Ciampino, Italy.

Almost 85 General Prioresses or their delegates will participate at this Assembly, as representatives of their Dominican Congregations; they will come from different countries of the world.

Sisters will celebrate together "The New Evangelization and our Dominican Mission Today".

The Assembly will have an intensive agenda and at the same time it will be interesting and informative for the future of all the Sisters.

I fly by plane over Iran and Afghanistan: dry mountains, dust, rocks, uniform in colour; the green of watered plants and trees does not exist. Only in the depth of narrow valleys do I see a few cultivated meters of green.
I see small houses, attached to the mountains. Where people actually live. What do they live on? Contrasting feelings fill me as the plane lands: I soon observe military aircraft and many armed soldiers on the runway. Yes, I have truly reached Kabul. There is war in Afghanistan.
