Rome, Italy, July 30, 2012: To go… to leave behind… to find… other scenarios of communication dynamics that will enable her to announce the news of the Gospel today -- this is the personal decision that Patrizia has taken. For many long years she has been an excellent secretary and social communicator of the Dominican Sisters International movement.
Convinced that “gratitude is the memory of the heart,” and realizing that Patrizia’s leaving DSI is imminent, I would like to state very sincerely my reflection on the Gospel of John 6:15 from this Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary time. In the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves of bread, I found a relationship between the true experience of these 5 years with Patrizia and that extraordinary action of Jesus to satisfy the people’s hunger.
I particularly hold dear the memory of a woman constantly committed to sharing the daily bread through communication with numerous members of our Dominican Family: Brothers, Nuns, Apostolic Dominican women, Lay Dominicans. She also shared it with many other persons who, in our world, hunger not only for material bread but also for the bread of the word and of the spirit, the word of dignity and human rights, of culture and development, of peace and justice, of solidarity and personal fulfillment.
Thank you, Patrizia, for having created so many networks of communication ever since DSI began. Thank you for believing in and giving witness to the fact that love and faith must go to the marketplace, become incarnate, and operate in the reality of our contemporary world in order to truly be faith and love in action. Thank you, because, following the desire of Isaiah 54:2 you have enlarged the space of the tent of the Dominican Sisters International movement. Throughout other changes of time and space, committed to the mission of communicating the good news of the Gospel, we shall walk together in the best of memories, up to the port of eternity.
