During the DSI Assembly in May, 2010, one Prioress offered her musings on the unity of Dominican Religious globally. She raised the questions: “What if we apostolic sisters across the world preached through our divided world and to an increasingly fragmented and broken church that unity is possible across cultural divides, across differing languages, across differing nationalities? What might 25,000 voices preaching unity across divisions say to our world today?”
These questions evoked an energy and enthusiasm throughout the assembly.
Working toward “a unified governance structure” for Dominican religious is not a current project of DSI. In fact, since the Assembly, some members have named concerns and challenges they see in such a dream. However, in their November meeting in Rome the members of the DSI Coordinating Council suggested that this “vision” be a source of shared reflection for all congregations who are members of DSI. Therefore we welcome your personal reflection on your thoughts and feelings around the dream of one global Congregation of apostolic Dominican women.
We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the following questions and submit your responses to the DSI office for the website. Please limit your response to the 3 questions in one page. In the spirit of prayer and conversation, may we listen to our hopes, dreams and concerns in the “what if”.
